Overview

Being an airborne disease, chickenpox is considered to be highly contagious but relatively harmless. Caused due to the infection for VZV virus, it results in skin rashes requiring treatment by a general physician.

Chickenpox Symptoms

Chickenpox symptoms are easily detectable visually within a span of few days from infection. Such a contagious disease has many symptoms and are as following:

  • A general feeling of being unwell
  • Fever, which is usually worse in adults than in children
  • Aching muscles
  • Loss of appetite
  • A feeling of nausea
  • Appearance of rashes
  • Development of red clusters of spots
  • Blisters

Causes of Chickenpox

Chickenpox cause mainly occurs through the varicella-zoster virus that spreads uncontrollably throughout the body causing red boils all over the body and may also cause pneumonia and inflammation of the brain. It has been noted that such a disease is more predominant in adults and does not affect an adolescent child with serious symptoms.

Chickenpox & Pregnancy

Chickenpox in itself is quite harmless and requires treatment only to alleviate discomfort. However, pregnancy may cause complications for the patient as the child in the womb may get infected. The only way out of such a situation for both the mother and the child is preliminary vaccinations. However, it is still by no means fatal for the mother but may cause underdevelopment and severe consequences for the child if it occurs in the preliminary stage of pregnancy.

Diagnosing Chickenpox

Chickenpox specialists can diagnose the disease by looking at the visible symptoms alone. Rarely there is a test required to diagnose it. However, in its severe form, blood tests may be required by the general physician.

Chickenpox Treatment

Chickenpox treatment has no as such procedures and in most cases does not require one either. Vaccinations and antibiotics may be used only to alleviate discomfort. It, however, does require isolation for the duration of the disease.
