Hysterectomy is the procedure to remove the uterus. Once hysterectomy is performed, menstrual periods don’t occur and getting pregnant isn’t a possibility anymore.

• Chronic pelvic pain

• Thickening of the uterus
• Uterine prolapse – uterus drops through the cervix and into the vagina

How To Prepare For Hysterectomy?

Discuss any ongoing medications with the doctor, Fasting may be required, heavy meals should be avoided before the surgery, Smoking should be completely avoided at least two weeks prior to the surgery. Gather as much information as you can about the procedure and ask as many questions as you can to the surgeon.

How Is Hysterectomy Performed?

On … arrival at the hospital, Hysterectomy is performed in the following way – During hysterectomy the surgeon detaches and removes the uterus from the ovaries, upper vagina and the fallopian tubes. The bottom part of the uterus also known as cervix is usually removed which is known as ‘Total Hysterectomy’ and when it is left in its place it is known as ‘Partial Hysterectomy’. If the procedure requires the removal of additional pelvic organs and tissues such as ovaries and fallopian tubes then that is carried out as well.
