Hysteroscopy is a procedure used to examine the inside of the Uterus. The tool used to carry out the process is called a hysteroscope. The process gives a close look at the cervix and uterus and helps to examine what’s causing the problems.
Hysteroscopy can be performed for the following reasons:
Cancer of the uterus
IUD has come out of place
To carry out sterilization procedure as a permanent form of birth control
Examine the lining of the uterus
Heavy bleeding after menopause
Occurrence of fibroids, polyps, or scarring on uterus
Heavy periods and chronic pelvic painDiscuss any ongoing medications with the doctor, Fasting may be required, heavy meals should be avoided before the surgery, Smoking should be completely avoided at least two weeks prior to the surgery. Gather as much information as you can about the procedure and ask as many questions as you can to the surgeon.
The procedure for hysteroscopy is as follows –
General anesthetic may or may not be given to you, after which, The doctor will widen the cervix to allow the hysteroscope to be inserted. Next, light is shone through the hysteroscope which allows the doctor to see the uterus and the openings of the fallopian tubes into the uterine cavity. At last, if surgery is required, small instruments are inserted into the uterus through the hysteroscope to carry out the procedure
