Gastroesophageal reflux disease, otherwise also known as GERD, is a condition where acid comes out from stomach to esophagus.

The condition is caused due to stomach acid flowing back frequently into the esophagus, a tube which connects mouth and stomach. This acid reflux can irritate your lining of the esophagus. A common condition, where most experience it once or twice a week. Can be chronic in nature.

Symptoms:

Self – diagnosable
Symptoms of bad breath, nausea, vomiting sensations, and vomitings, respiratory problems and pain while swallowing as persisting condition should be reported to a physician at immediate effect.

People may experience
Pain - burning, and inflammation; chest pain
Swallowing - difficulty in swallowing
Liquid - soar liquid
Lump - a sensation of a lump in the throat

Treatment

Self-Care: Chest pain and vomitings should be reported to a doctor. Lifestyle changes can cause a difference in this scenario. Maintaining a healthy diet and nutrition, avoiding smoking, and physical activity can reduce the condition.

Medications: Lab tests may be required for grade three and of severe situations. Antibiotics will be recommended. Surgery is required in rare conditions. Proton pump inhibitors may be given to reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach.
