A rare congenital malformation in which can the pulmonary veins have difficulty in connecting to the left atrium.

Some children can have other heart defects along with TAPVR, aside from the atrial septal defect. A baby detected with the anomalous pulmonary venous connection may need surgery or other procedures soon after birth, TAPVR is considered a critical congenital heart defect. [1]

The four pulmonary veins are the ones who supply the oxygen-rich blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the heart. The total anomalous pulmonary venous connection is a rare congenital dysfunction of the pulmonary blood vessels that do not let the veins connect the blood vessels with the left atrium of the heart. Instead of connecting to the left atrium, all the blood are drained on the right one.

Ages affected - Between 20 - 30 - fewer; between 30 - 40 - more often; 40 and above – Often

Symptoms

Symptoms may include problem while breathing and pounding of the heart more than once. Weak pulse and ashen or bluish skin color can be related to the total anomalous pulmonary venous connection.

People may experience the following:
Pain areas - Heart
Difficult – Breathing formation can be irregular and difficult
Pulse detection – Pulse which can be extremely weak

Treatment

Self Care: For weak pulse or excessive pounding of the heart, taking confirmed breathes and calming down can be a good thing to do.
