Sm/RNP antibody test is used to detect the presence of antibodies to Sm and RNP. presence of antibodies to Sm is a marker for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Presence of RNP antibodies is observed in SLE and other diseases like scleroderma, polymyositis, and Sjögren’s syndrome. The tube is labeled and sent to the lab where the Sm/RNP antibody blood test is performed on it.

What are the parameters measured in the Sm/RNP Antibody test?

If the RNP antibody value is 29 AU/mL or less then it is negative and if it’s 41 AU/mL or greater it’s positive. Similarly, an Sm value of 29 AU/mL or less is negative and greater than 41 AU/mL is positive2.
