What is Sm/RNP Antibody test?

Sm/RNP antibody test is used to detect the presence of antibodies to Sm and RNP. presence of antibodies to Sm is a marker for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Presence of RNP antibodies is observed in SLE and other diseases like scleroderma, polymyositis, and Sjögren’s syndrome. Hence, the Sm/RNP antibody test aids the diagnoses of specific diseases by determining the presence of antibodies.

The tube is labeled and sent to the lab where the Sm/RNP antibody blood test is performed on it.

What are the parameters measured in the Sm/RNP Antibody test?

If the RNP antibody value is 29 AU/mL or less then it is negative and if it’s 41 AU/mL or greater it’s positive. Similarly, an Sm value of 29 AU/mL or less is negative and greater than 41 AU/mL is positive2.
