3D CT Chest – Plain

A three-dimensional (3D) Computed tomography (CT) of the chest uses special X-rays to examine abnormalities found in the chest.

According to the WHO (2004), chest pain is the fourth most common cause of emergency visits made to doctors.

A 3D CT Scan for the chest is used to help diagnose the cause of unexplained cough, shortness of breath, and other chest problems.

It takes images of the chest and lungs to recreate the shape, size, and position of their structures. It determines tumor, tuberculosis, and pneumonia.

In case of chest pain, an initial consultation with the doctor may be followed by a 3D CT scan for the chest depending on the condition of the patient.

How is 3D CT Chest pain performed?

A chest CT scan is done by a radiologist at hospitals with the following procedure

  • The patient must lie down on a table and the table slides into a tunnel-like hole for scanning.
  • The scanner takes pictures while the patient must hold their breath for a few seconds.
  • In some cases, a contrast dye is injected into the patient before the test.

A CT scan of the chest takes about 30-40 seconds while the entire process may take up to 30 minutes.
