Overview of PSA PROFILE TEST
PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) Profile Test is performed to measure the level of PSA in blood. It is an important part of the prostate examination.
What is PSA PROFILE TEST?
PSA Profile Test is a blood test. PSA is produced by both normal cells and cancer cells but cancer cells produce excessive PSA. PSA Profile Test helps in diagnosis of Prostate Cancer and other afflictions of the prostate gland. PSA Profile test does not give a conclusive diagnosis of prostate cancer.
Why is the PSA PROFILE TEST suggested?
PSA Profile Test is suggested for the following reasons:
- In the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
- Benign prostate enlargement.
- Urinary Infection
How is PSA PROFILE TEST performed?
PSA Profile Test is performed as follows:
- A blood sample is collected from the vein of the forearm.
- Sample sent for examination.
The result of PSA Profile Test comes out within a few days of sample collection.
What are the parameters measured in the PSA PROFILE TEST?
PSA Profile Test measures the amount of Prostate Specific Antigen in the blood. Normal levels of PSA is below or equal to 4ng/ml. The amount of normal PSA depends upon age and any other underlying disease.
Preparation before performing PSA PROFILE TEST
Preparation before performing PSA Profile Test :
- Do not give sample within 7 days of digital rectal examination or rectal prostatic ultrasonography.
Post-care after PSA PROFILE TEST
No post-care is required after PSA Profile Test.
