Renin activity measures the activity of the plasma enzyme renin. Renin plays a huge role in the regulation of blood pressure, thirst and urine output in a body. Why is Renin Activity suggested?

Renin activity test is suggested for the following diagnosis:

  • Hypertension
  • Primary aldosteronism.
  • To measure the adequacy of steroid substitution.

How is Renin Activity performed2?

Following is the procedure for renin activity test:

  • A blood sample of is taken for the test.
  • Alcohol is used to clean the skin.
  • The technician wraps an elastic band above the elbow so that the veins can be easily seen.
  • The needle is injected near your elbow or the back of your hand and blood is collected in a plain tube attached to the needle. The needle is ejected from the skin.

The blood sample is labelled and sent for analysis.

Preparation before performing Renin Activity
