Anti Soluble Liver Antigen

Overview

The Anti-soluble Liver Antigen (SLA) test is used to detect autoimmune liver disease, hepatitis caused by certain strains of the hepatitis virus, and other liver disorders.

What Is the Anti-Soluble Liver Antigen test?

The SLA test is recommended for the evaluation of an autoimmune liver disease or hepatitis. Anti-soluble liver antigen Antibodies, particularly Immunoglobulin G, is detected in patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). The antibodies, in this case, are directed against an immunoprotein, UGA suppressor tRNA, suppressing hepatic immune responses. The presence of these antibodies in patients with cryptogenic hepatitis may suggest that these patients have AIH type 1.
