Overview

EEG (Electro– Encephalograph) is a test to detect electrical activity in the brain. It helps identify brain disorders such as epilepsy.

What is EEG (Electro– Encephalograph)?

EEG (Electro-Encephalograph) uses electrodes attached to the scalp to measure electrical impulses in the brain. An EEG (Electro – Encephalograph) is used to diagnose and treat brain tumour, brain damage due to head injuries, encephalopathy, inflammation of the brain, stroke, epilepsy, and sleep disorders.

How is EEG (Electro-Encephalograph) Performed?

EEG (Electro-Encephalograph) is a painless procedure:

  • The radiologist measures the head and makes markings, where the electrodes are to be placed.
  • The spots are rubbed with a gritty cream to improve the quality of the recording.
  • Electrodes are attached to the scalp using a special adhesive.
  • The electrodes are connected to an instrument that records the electrical impulses in the brain.
  • Some EEG (Electro-Encephalograph) procedures require the patient to sleep during the test.

The entire procedure takes approximately 60 minutes.

Side-effects of EEG (Electro-Encephalograph)
