Epididymitis- Everything to know

About

Inflammation of the epididymis, which is a tube located at the back of the testicles that stores and carries sperm.

There are an estimated 600,000 cases of epididymitis in the United States each year.[1]

- Pain and swelling in the testicles.
- Can occur in men of all ages.
- Spreads by sexual conduct.
- May lead to cysts and calcification.

Epididymitis is often caused by a bacterial infection or by Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD). It spreads by having unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex. It starts with having a few mild symptoms and tends to get worse if left untreated.

Ages affected- between 14 and 35 - often; between 19 and 40 - more often; 41 and above - less often.

Symptoms include pain and swelling in testicles. In chronic cases, it causes pain and discomfort in scrotum and epididymis as well.
